Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Police reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
